Supreme Court Gnanasara Thero's petition
The appeal filed by Bodu Bala Sena General Secretary Galagodaaththe
Gnanasara Thera against his 6-year imprisonment was dismissed by the
Supreme Court today.
While dismissing the monk's appeal, the Supreme Court affirmed the verdict delivered by the Court of Appeal.
Gnanasara Thera's appeal was heard before three Supreme Court judges - Eva Wanasundara, Nalin Perera and Prasanna Jayawardena - this morning.
The monk has been convicted for contempt of court and is currently receiving treatment at the Sri Jayawardenapura Teaching Hospital.
Gnanasara Thera threatened Sandhya Ekneligoda, journalist Prageeth Ekneligoda's wife, within the Homagama Magistrate's Court premises.
